College Tours: Heritage and Nature
Dawson didn’t always occupy such a magnificent building and grounds. There are thousands of people, students, teachers and staff whose memories were not made in the old Mother House on Sherbrooke corner Atwater. It is a storied place made even grander by the addition of a new Theatre and Peace Garden. Tours will be conducted in fair weather both inside and outside during early Fall and Spring. Come back here to sign up for tours as dates are set!
Speaker Series
An educational institution has a special knack for presenting lectures and presentations, after all we run hundreds of these every day in the form of classes. This special 50th anniversary speaker series during 2018-2019 will have two themes, the old and the new, the past and the present and the future. The first of this speaker series takes place under The Next 50 banner, during which members of the Dawson Community have been invited by the Director General to explore artificial intelligence and the way it will shape the future of education. Click on The Next 50 for details and to sign up. It’s free.
History of Dawson
Dawson was founded nearly 50 years ago. It now occupies a building that is 110 years old. The stories we can and will tell. Special guests will speak about this rich heritage in the Spring of 2019, from Gary Evans’ The Landmark of Learning that documents the transformation from the Mother House in the 1980s into Dawson to the Sisters of the Congregation de Notre Dame who were in this building before us, to historians exploring the decades that Dawson came to be and shaped its character. Watch this space as events are added.
The Next 50
On Friday, June 1 from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. in the Dawson Theatre, join the Director General Richard Filion for an end-of-year Plenary + Panel that will challenge us to reimagine the education we provide!
Professor Ollivier Dyens, Deputy Provost (Student Life and Learning) at McGill University, will deliver a keynote address on the subject of Artificial Intelligence and its growing impact on our societies and on human life.
This keynote address will be followed by an inter-disciplinary panel to continue the dialogue with participants on a range of topics stemming from Professor Dyens’ remarks.
This inaugural event sets the stage for the 50th Anniversary Speaker Series at Dawson that will explore provocative and evocative ideas urging us to reflect on and perhaps even change the way we think about our educational mission and the delivery of knowledge and skills. To go one step further, we should examine our roles as agents of change and progress for the greater good of society, asking ourselves: Are we setting the trends, or simply following them?
