Remedial Activities for Sec. 5 English Labs
Activities in these labs focus on reading comprehension and essay writing skills.
After reading a paragraph or short essay, students will be able to understand:
- The vocabulary and expressions in context
- The main idea(s) and the supporting details
- The inferences and implications from the context
- Organization of a paragraph (topic sentences and supporting points)
- Identification and development of a short essay (introduction and thesis statements, support and analysis, and conclusions)
Students will develop their skills in writing sentences, paragraphs, and/or essay by:
- using an English dictionary
- expanding vocabulary, expression and idiomatic expressions, use of verbs, grammar points, syntax, spelling and punctuation correctly
- developing a topic sentence, supporting points
- Exploring the use of appropriate transitions within and between paragraphs
- Writing an introduction with a clear thesis statement, using quotes from and references to support a thesis, and writing clear conclusions
- Developing, drafting, editing and re-writing a three paragraph essay
- Learning to proofread, self-correct, edit and revise your writing for both form and content.
