Dr. Robert Murgita

Dr. Robert Murgita, full Professor at McGill University, has published more than 130 publications on immunotherapeutic drug candidates. He is the named inventor on more than 40 US and International patents covering the manufacturing and uses of therapeutic drugs. He has served as the Chairman of Microbiology and Immunology at McGill’s Faculty of Medicine, and has held the Canadian Pacific Chair and as such he was the University’s chief spokesman for biotechnology at the University and government levels. In 1994, he founded his first Biotech company, IMMTEK. He then went on to found Atlantic Biopharmaceuticals in 1999, which in 2002 became Merrimack Pharmaceuticals, to commercialize his discoveries. Merrimack Pharmaceuticals went public on NASDAQ on March 2012 and attained a market cap of approximately $1 Billion USD. He now leads a multidisciplinary research team at McGill that focuses on rational drug design using computational methods.
