Program Policies
Academic Standing and Advancement Policy
To be in good standing and to register unconditionally, students must meet the requirements of the College Academic Standing and Advancement Policy, as well as the Program requirements.
College Policy
Academic Standing
To be in good standing and to register unconditionally:
- students must have passed more than 50% of their courses for the year (not including summer school)
- students admitted in January must pass more than 50% of their courses in that semester
- students must also meet the standards of their particular program. If that policy is more stringent than the college policy, the program policy (DEC or AEC) takes precedence
- students who do not fulfill the above conditions may register only with the permission of the Academic Standing Appeals Committee.
Program policy
Academic Standing
The purpose of this policy is to maintain high standards in the Community Recreation Leadership Training Program and to promote academic excellence.
In addition to the college policy the Community Recreation Leadership Training Program has the following requirements:
First year
A student who fails more than two courses may not proceed into Term III.
Second year
A student who is behind in their course grid by more than two courses may not proceed into Term V.
Third year
A student who has not passed all Term I to Term V courses may not proceed into Term VI.
During the regular semester a review of each student will be done by the CRLT faculty. A student who has failed more than 2 courses may be subject to the following consequences:
- A student can continue in the program
- A student may be removed from the program
- A student may continue in the program, but is placed on an individual course plan
Under extenuating circumstances, a student may appeal in writing to the program coordinator.
2. To exhibit career suitability, students must adhere to the following policy.
2.1
As students in the C.R.L.T. Program are being educated for a career in the field of recreation, academic performance will not be the only criteria for evaluating the students’ standing. Students are expected to exhibit behaviour appropriate to their profession, that is attitudes and behaviours which demonstrate a genuine caring for people and manifest a commitment to being reliable, ethical, self-disciplined, open and accountable. Students must demonstrate professional conduct in all activities associated with their program, for example conduct in all classes, student activities in the department, and field work placements. A student may be expelled from the program based on career unsuitability.
2.2
The procedure for removing students from the program on the basis of career suitability will be applied as per the College’s Institutional Student Evaluation Policy (ISEP).
A prerequisite course is defined as a course required to pass as a condition to register into the next sequential course.
A student must pass the first course in order to be allowed to advance to the next sequential course.
