What's the deadline to register?

For the Winter 2017 semester, you have until 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11 to register and to finalize your registration. However, please note that from one year to the next, the dates may change. You will know that you have finalized your registration once you see your confirmation number.

How much are my fees and how can I pay them?

The amount owed depends on the number of course hours (see the course description), the number of courses, and your status (Quebec resident or not, in a program or not).Your fees will be indicated when you finalize your registration and you are encouraged to pay your fees immediately. If you do not choose this option you will receive a statement of fees payable upon receipt.For further details regarding fees, please refer to the Continuing Education timetable or go to: Student Fees
Please note that the fees do not include textbooks and/or materials and these can cost in the area of $100 or more per course.

How much time do I have to pay my fees?

Your best option is to pay immediately by credit card and thus ensure your course registration. Fees must be paid in full upon registration. Please note that students who do not pay their course fees as per payment instructions may have their course registration cancelled and will remain liable for the non-refundable fees.

Registration Procedure

The Ministry of Education requires that courses offered by CEGEPs enable students to follow a specific and well-defined academic path. The Continuing Education Application Form will allow the College to identify the status and goals of Continuing Education students.New Continuing Education Students must apply online prior to registration in order to receive a student I.D. and an Omnivox password.Returning Continuing Education Students last registered in Fall 2016 can register through the Internet Registration system without completing a new Continuing Education Application Form.

How do I create a temporary permanent code?

In order to access the registration system you will need your Dawson I.D. number and your Permanent Code. If you have not studied in a Quebec high school or CEGEP, you will not yet have a Permanent Code. You can use the following as a “temporary” Permanent Code:Enter the first three letters of your last name, the first letter of your first name and your birthday (day/month/year)Example: John Smith 09-05-86 = SMIJ090586

Women must add 50 to the month.
Example: Joanne Smith 07-09-90 = SMIJ075990

How many courses can I register for?

When registering, please keep in mind that a minimum of one hour of study time is recommended for every hour of class time. As an example, a 75-hour course would require typically five (5) hours of class time and five (5) hours of study time, i.e. a total of 10 hours weekly.

Can I register for a course if I completed the prerequisite at another school?

In order to maximize your chances of successfully completing a course, it is essential that you have the proper prerequisite(s).

What can I do if the course for which I wish to register is full?

You can try to register for another section of the course if one is available. Check the timetable posted on the Web. It is possible that another section of the course has been added. If all sections are full, call 514 933-3771 to ask about waiting lists.

Can I register for a course I've already passed?

In exceptional circumstances you may be given permission to repeat a course. If you feel you have a valid reason to do so, please call the Help Line (Continuing Education) (see above).

Can I register for a course in the day division?

In general, students in Continuing Education may not register for day division courses. In special circumstances (e.g. a required program course is not available in Continuing Education), students in programs can request a day-division course by completing a form available in the Continuing Education Office, room 2H.1. These requests will be considered, space permitting.

Can I graduate from my program by completing courses in Continuing Education?

Yes, if the required courses are available and you are registering as a program student.

Do I have to take a placement test (English or French)?

English: If you plan to register for an English course this semester and you have not completed an English course at Dawson or an English course at the 101, 102 or 103 level at another English CEGEP, you must write a placement test before you register.French: Students who have passed their Secondary V French (Language of Instruction or Second Language) in a Quebec educational institution in the last three years, will automatically be placed in a French level according to their grades. French placement results will be available on the Dawson website prior to registration. For further details on placement tests, please refer to the Continuing Education timetable.

How do I get an I.D. card?

You may obtain their photo ID card in room 2E.01 (Audio Visual counter) Monday to Friday 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. or 5:00 – 6:45 p.m. Bring your schedule/receipt and any photo ID and have your photo taken. Students with Dawson ID from a previous semester may obtain a sticker to validate their ID card in room 2E.01.

When do classes begin?

The date classes begin differs from one year to the next. Please refer to the Academic Calendar (course change, course withdrawal, admission deadlines etc.) in your timetable or online.

When do classes end?

Ending dates vary and some courses have final exams. Please refer to the Academic Calendar in your timetable or online.

Who is the teacher?

Unless indicated on your schedule, you will have to wait until your first class to find out the name of your teacher.

Can I buy my books in advance?

If the textbook is indicated in the course description, you may purchase the book in advance from the College bookstore located on the Metro level. Otherwise you must wait until the first class to find out which book to purchase.
