Applied Ethics in Humanities
Statement of the Competency: to think critically about ethical issues. Students who successfully complete the APPLIED ETHICS course in Humanities should be able to:
- Understand basic ethical concepts and theories necessary for reflecting upon moral beliefs, actions and questions pertaining to personal, professional, local and global issues
- Situate issues in their social and historical contexts and examine them from an ethical perspective in a reasoned and critical manner
- Identify conflicts of values, and reflect on the moral disagreements, questions and options that emerge from these conflicts
- Identify and analyze ethical issues that are pertinent to the student’s program
The APPLIED ETHICS course is designed to provide students with the basic ideas and skills of moral reasoning so that they can identify and analyze various issues, including program related ones, from an ethical perspective. Students become acquainted with a number of ethical theories and learn how to analyze and evaluate ethical arguments.
