Program Policies
Academic Standing and Advancement Policy
To be in good standing and to register unconditionally, students must meet the requirements of the College Academic Standing and Advancement Policy, as well as the Program requirements.
College policy
Academic Standing
To be in good standing and to register unconditionally:
- Students must have passed more than 50% of their courses for the year (not including summer school)
- Students admitted in January must pass more than 50% of their courses in that semester
- Students must also meet the standards of their particular program. If that policy is more stringent than the College policy, the program policy (DEC or AEC) takes precedence
- Students who do not fulfill the above conditions may register only with the permission of the Academic Standing Appeals Committee
- Students denied permission to register under this section have the right to appeal to the Academic Standing Appeals Committee
Program Policy
In addition to the College policy, the Industrial Design Program has the following requirements:
Academic Standing
Students’ standing is determined at the end of each academic year according to the following regulations:
- Students must complete the program within five years of commencement.
- Students will be expelled from the program if they have failed the same Specific Education (concentration) course twice.
Advancement
- Students must pass all Specific Education (Industrial Design) courses in the previous term in order to register for Specific Education (Industrial Design) courses in the following term. Students who fail Specific Education (Industrial Design) courses may remain in the program and register for General Education courses.
- In order to advance to the fifth term of the program, students must have completed all but one of the term one to term four General Education courses.
A student expelled as a result of the application of this policy has the right to appeal his/her expulsion to the Academic Standing Appeals Committee.
The above conditions notwithstanding, the program coordinator may recommend an exception.
