The Dean of Academic Systems is responsible for admissions, registration, course change, student records, academic standing, scheduling, and academic advising. Services available through the Registrar’s office include College admissions, program transfers, equivalences, official transcripts, address changes, registration appointments, and other matters related to students’ academic files, as well as the timetable.


The Dean of Creative and Applied Arts

The Dean of Creative and Applied Arts is responsible for the Creative Arts Languages and Literature Program, the Visual Arts Program, Professional Theatre, Illustration and Design, Interior Design, Professional Photography, Graphic Design, Industrial Design. 3D Animation and Computer Generated Imagery programs and the eleven departments that are the major contributors to the specific education component of these programs. In addition, the Dean is also responsible for the English and French departments which together account for more than half of every Dawson students’ general education component. There are currently more than 1,500 students in the programs in the sector and more than 150 faculty teaching in the departments and programs reporting to the Dean.


The Dean of Instructional Development

The Dean of Instructional Development is responsible for a variety of services related to faculty professional development, instructional development, student success, institutional research, liaison with universities, and a range of evaluation and testing activities, i.e., teacher evaluation, mid-term assessments, placement tests, and the Exit Test. She is a member of various academic committees, such as the Academic Administration Group and Senate.


The Dean of Science, Medical Studies & Engineering

The Dean of Science, Medical Studies & Engineering (SMSE) is responsible for the academic management of the Programs in the Sector, the Physical Education department, and Continuing Education courses offered by departments in the sector. His primary responsibility is to ensure the integrity of a healthy pedagogical environment for each student so that they may succeed in their courses and graduate from their program in prescribed time. In order to achieve this, the Dean plays an important role in the design, implementation and evaluation-revision of each program of study. On an annual basis, the Dean is responsible for ensuring adequate resources are available to support each department’s operating budget needs, as well as securing the funds to ensure the proper maintenance and renewal of equipment through capital acquisitions. Program quality is ensured through the review of formal indicators (KPI), close collaboration with the chair and program coordinator, and by responding to feedback from students and employees. Trends in the industry and Program relevance are monitored through the ongoing participation of the Dean in the Program Advisory Group. The professional development of faculty and staff in responses to the evolution of disciplines and professions is carried out in collaboration with other services in the college. The College’s Strategic Plan and the Annual Management Plan provide the context in which various dossiers are prioritized in the sector.


The Dean of Social Science and Business Technologies

The role of the Dean of Social Science and Business Technologies (SSBT) is to provide leadership and support to programs in Social Science, Liberal Arts, Social Service, Community Recreation Leadership Training, Business Administration, and Computer Science as well as the Department of Humanities and Philosophy.
