ACADEMIC STANDING AND ADVANCEMENT POLICY

College Policy

Academic Standing

To be in good standing and to register unconditionally:

  • Students must have passed more than 50% of their courses for the year (not including summer school).
  • Students admitted in January must pass more than 50% of their courses in that term.
  • Students must also meet the standards of their particular program. If that policy is more stringent than the College policy, the program policy (DEC or AEC) takes precedence.
  • Students who do not fulfill the above conditions may register only with the permission of the College Academic Standing Appeals Committee.
  • Students denied permission to register under this section have a right to appeal to the College Academic Standing Appeals Committee.

PROGRAM POLICY

Academic Standing

To be in good standing and to register unconditionally:

  • Students must have passed at least 50% of the concentration courses (Disciplines: 201, 383, 410, 420) taken in the year (not including Summer school)
  • Students must not fail the same concentration course twice;
  • Students will have their status reviewed at the end of each winter term.

Advancement

To advance from year 1 to year 2 of the program, students will normally have passed all year 1 courses.

  • Students who fail 410-204-DW, Introduction to Marketing, will not be permitted to advance to year 2;
  • Students who are missing:
    • three or more general education courses or;
    • three or more concentration courses or;
    • four or more concentration and general education courses will not be permitted to advance to year 2;

In other cases where students are missing some courses, they may be permitted to advance provided the Department has approved a plan of studies that will allow students to be in phase by the end of term 4.

To advance from year 2 to year 3 of the Program, students must normally have passed all year 1 and year 2 courses.

  • Students who are missing:
    • three or more general education courses or;
    • three or more concentration courses or;
    • four or more concentration and general education courses will not be permitted to advance to year 3;

In other cases where students are missing some courses, they may be permitted to advance provided the Department has approved a plan of studies that will allow students to be in phase by the end of term 6.

Students who fail to comply with this Standing and Advancement Policy will be expelled from the Program and the College. Expelled students have the right to appeal the expulsion to the College Academic Standing Appeals Committee.
