What will it cost me to be admitted to the University of Sherbrooke and to register for courses?
University of Sherbrooke fees: $82.00 one-time admission fee, $92.38 (to be verified) tuition fee per credit, and a $30.00 administrative fee per academic year.
The hosting college will charge you an administration and coursepack fee of $30.00 on the first day of class.
You may be able to recoup the above costs through your college’s professional development fund.
How long will it take me to complete the final fifteen (15) credits of the Master of Education in College Teaching?
That depends almost entirely on you and the workload you assume.
The maximum period allowed by the University of Sherbrooke to complete the fifteen (15) credits of the research component is fourteen (14) semesters.
What computer equipment will I need to participate in the courses?
For classes on VIA and for participants from the outlying areas for ALL classes, you will need:
- a computer with high-speed Internet access
- a Webcam
- headset and microphone (if not built-in to your computer).
Before classes begin, it is imperative that you test your equipment using VIA and Moodle. See your local Performa representative for instructions.
How can I assure that I will be free on Friday afternoons to take a course?
We encourage you to meet with your Department Chair to request a schedule with Friday afternoon open to take a course.
Your request must be submitted to the college 60 days prior to the start of the following semester. Check with the DTU on any support you may need.
Will information technology be used in the courses?
Information technology is used in every course. The course management system used is Moodle and the VIA system is for delivery to outlying areas from where the course is being hosted.
Can I register in the program if I am a part-time teacher or if I don't know whether my contract will be renewed?
Once you are admitted to the University of Sherbrooke in the PERFORMA program, you have the right to take courses continuously in the program even if you are no longer employed at a Cegep in Quebec.
If I have taught for years, what will these courses offer me?
The courses will give you the opportunity for continuing development in the art and science of Cegep teaching. In addition, through your participation, you will make a contribution to the less experienced teachers.
If I am teaching in more than one cegep, which PERFORMA Representative should I contact?
Contact the cegep where you feel most at home or have the heaviest teaching load.
Will I receive an increase in scholarity or an increase in pay?
Contact the Human Resources Department in your college for a complete explanation as certain conditions may apply.
Do any of the courses have pre-requisites?
Core Courses: Assessment as Learning (PED-602) has a pre-requisite of (PED-601)
Elective Courses for the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma: Teaching with Technology, level 2 (PED-621) has two pre-requisites; (PED-601) and (PED-609).
Graduate Diploma Program: pre-requisite is completion of the Graduate Certificate. The course Constructing Knowledge Across the Disciplines (COL-869) has a pre-requisite of (COL-855).
Master of Education Research Component: pre-requisites are completion of the Graduate Certificate and at least twenty-four (24) credits in the Graduate Diploma program. The five courses in the Research Component are sequential.
Can I register for a course if I don't live in the Montreal region?
Yes. Participants from colleges in outlying areas can participate in the class through VIA.
