Week 2
July 10 to July 14
Includes:
- Breakdance (Breakin, B-girl/B-boy technique)
- Physical Conditioning & Yoga
Campers who would like to continue in Week 2 will be promoted to be team leaders to help out the new campers but will also be taught specific movements that continue their learning from the first week.
The B-boy/B-girl (Breakdance) camp will introduce campers to the dance of B-boying/B-girling otherwise known as Breakdance. The basic movements will be taught along with proper warmup, conditioning and yoga to prepare the campers to move towards more advanced movements by the end of the week. Campers will have the chance to dance to great music, watch informative videos, learn cool moves and choreographies from a professional and make up their own routines with friends in a safe and fun environment. There will be a chance to participate in field trips to dance studios, friendly competitions (battles), dance circles (cyphers) and a performance at the end of the week. Campers will have the opportunity to improvise, collaborate and create their own unique choreographies and create DIY costumes and original Graffiti influenced art work.
Instructor: KATE ALSTERLUND aka B-girl Lynx (bilingual)
Kate Alsterlund aka B-girl Lynx, a professional b-girl and renowned figure in the Montreal Street Dance community with 18 years of experience, will lead students in a discovery of Breakdance (B-girling/B-boying) and Hip Hop Culture. Students will be guided from basic to more advanced steps and moves by the end of the week. Students will learn about Breaking music and will be encouraged to freestyle and make collaborative routines for a performance. There will be an outing to a street dance studio as well as guest speakers about Montreal Hip Hop and B-girl/B-boy history. In addition to the dance aspect of the weeklong course there will be reflective time for yoga and meditation, watching videos, reading books, practicing Graffiti style lettering, drawing in sketch books, painting and DIY clothes modification with inspiration from Hip Hop Fashion styles.
