The Research Ethics Board (REB), mandated by Dawson College Board of Governors, supports researchers in their mission to maintain the highest ethical conduct by ensuring that ethical guidelines derived from the Tri-Council Policy Statement: Ethical Conduct for Research Involving Humans and the Dawson College Policy on the Ethical Conduct of Research Involving Humans are respected.
Research ethics review is required for:
- Dawson researchers and researchers from other institutions who wish to conduct research or recruit human participants (such as; students, faculty, staff) at Dawson College,
- Dawson researchers under the auspices of Dawson College, who wish to conduct research with human participants external to the College.
Submitting Applications
The REB accepts applications on an ongoing basis. The application deadlines correspond to Full Board meeting dates. Applications that do not require a Full Board Review will receive a Delegated Review by an ad hoc committee, outside the Full Board meeting schedule.
For planning purposes, assume that an application will require a Full Board Review.
All complete applications received by the application deadline will be reviewed at the corresponding meeting date. Applications deemed to be incomplete will be returned to the applicant.
Please apply at least two months before you plan to start your research. For research commencing in August, apply no later than the posted May deadline.
Any questions regarding the ethics review process, submitting applications, the status of your application, Review Letters, and ethics advice can be directed to the Coordinator.
If your project requires special consideration, please contact the Coordinator to see if special arrangements can be made.
